  3. Mmm, Tasty

    I’ve been a bit unwell this past week. In fact it was exactly a week ago I was sitting slouched in my chair at work saying that I felt yucky. I then proceeded to spend the next five days on the couch. Changing from one pair of pajamas to another.

    I also became enthralled with Tasty Planner. It’s a really cute little place to post recipes, but then you can also drag your recipes into the weekly planner. This is important for us, because we do our veggie shopping fortnightly, and I need an idea of what we’re going to have otherwise a lot seems to end up in the compost.

    I only have three recipes up on my profile so far, because I think it looks nicer when they have photos. But you know how hard it is to photograph food in bad lighting, so only foods I’ve made in the daylight have made it up so far.

  4. Pre-Sadness

    I was also given some bad news on Saturday. I seems that one of the little chickens CROWED on Saturday morning, making it less of a girl than the others. We suspect it’s Pepper because s/he’s got a lot bigger comb than the others.

    Apparently there is a chicken exchange program at the grain place, so I may trade him/her in for another little bub. I’m still holding out hope that it was one of the others before we go to such measures.

  5. It’s Going to be Amazing
    I first read about UrbanMAX over at Kris’s site. Being an Amazing Race fan myself, I was immediately obsessed with the event coming to Brisbane in October.

    The Urban Max is part adventure race, part scavenger hunt with a mix of the amazing race. It is a completely new format of racing that will take teams of two through the heart of the host city. Competitors will get to visit some of the cities [sic] most famous landmarks, as well as suburban areas, while completing a variety of activities along the way.

    This event is for all skill and fitness levels, with a number of the activities needing more brainpower than muscle. Speed alone will not get you over the line first!

    Hello! Awesome! Registration is open, and we are officially entered. It’s a bit pricey at $90/person, but I figure it’s a great way to see the city in a way I probably otherwise never would. We’re in the Mixed Couple / Social category. Not being in the competitive category will probably prevent our marriage from suffering. (See my previous declaration.)

    You Don’t Know What You Got ‘Til It’s Gone
    I was given a box of Junior Mints this morning. Junior Mints are not a native candy species. I have been told by people here that they watched Seinfeld and wondered what they were like.

    Twistori updates with any tweets from Twitter that include the words “I wish”, “I love”, “I hate”, “I believe”, “I feel”, or “I think”. It’s nice and pretty. Plus I just saw the funniest one ever. Someone said “I wish my lawn was emo… so it would cut itself.” Terrible, but hilarious.

    I’m also contemplating the purchase of these Twitter-inspired t-shirts. “That’s what she twittered.” Ha!

  8. Getting Things Done

    I also decided to quit whinging and start DOING something about all the stressors in my life. I’m just not very good at diving headfirst into things and hoping for the best. I plot and plan and hypothesize, and by the time I need to take action, I’ve turned into a little pile of anxiety. A ball of stress. A wart of worry. Introvertism at its worst.

    I’m happy to report that a year and a half after I was officially allowed, I finally signed up to get my Medicare card this week. (Medicare is like the public health system. From what I can tell, if/when you go to the doctor it’s kind of like insurance where you pay a little bit and they pay the rest. But people still get private insurance for reasons unbeknownst to me.)

    Once I get that little card in the mail, I’m going to finally get my Australian driver’s license.

    And then, just maybe, I’ll see a cute, little car in my future.

    I also have things to take care of with the ominous Department of Immigration and the good ol’ US Consulate. Blerg. These things stress me out, and I’m acting like I don’t have to do it.

    Anyway, we’re not quite dead yet. More to come…

  9. Oops…

    Has it been almost a month? I had wanted to post some photos, but due to a series of circumstances, I haven’t been able to get them off my camera yet. And then I got busy. And then I got depressed. And then I got bored with the internet altogether. Oh and then there was that period where all I did was play LOTRO.

    I couldn’t even tell you all the exciting things that I thought I really should post over the last few weeks. It’s all gone.

    But I have been on the receiving end of some really awesome gifts lately. Gifts from other people, and also from me. My new (and completely needless) mousepad makes me happier than it really should. I’d show you… but again, camera to computer transactions aren’t happening at the moment. And of course, stores don’t have their products online here. But let me just say that Office Works’ Philosophy range makes me giddy. GIDDY.

    Oh, and I’m trying to be better at the actual WRITTEN word, with Erin as my inspiration. (Girl, I don’t know how you do it, but you’re awesome!) That being said, I haven’t actually sent anything to anybody yet, but it’s definitely on my to-do list.

    I take that back, I’m sending a cheque off today with a handwritten note. I’ll take that as a win.

    Did I mention my parents are coming? I spent last weekend calling between my parents and my uncle in Western Australia. I think we’ve got that whole section of the visit planned now. I can’t wait to go back to Perth, if only for one day. Whee.
